Sculptra™ is an injectable filler comprised of polylactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic material. FDA approved for cosmetic facial rejuvenation, Sculptra™ can fill in areas of the face which have sunken or lost volume due to age or due to lipoatrophy or facial wasting. Sculptra™ is unique in that, once injected into the deep dermal layer of the skin, there is a gradual increase in skin thickness that occurs over time. Dr. Roland performs Sculptra™ injections in his Manhattan office. Treatment is quick, taking anywhere from fifteen to forty minutes to complete depending on the size and number of treatment areas. For maximum comfort, a local or topical anesthetic may first be applied. Dr. Roland uses a very fine needle to inject Sculptra™ in small amounts through multiple injections into the skin.
There is minimal downtime or recovery after treatment with Sculptra™. Patients may experience some minor redness, bruising or swelling, all of which tend to resolve quickly. You will be advised to massage the treatment area several times a day during the first few days to help evenly distribute the product. You should be able to resume your normal routine and work immediately after treatment. Results are seen gradually over time and may last up to two years.
